Kandersteg International Scout Centre is the World Scout Centre, and one of the largest and most well known scout centres in the world. Every year, the centre welcomes up to 12’000 scouts from all over the world for about 70’000 nights. The guests can chose from extensive programme activities and catering offers. Due to the growth of the Centre over the last years both in infrastructure and overnights, KISC has decided to adapt its staffing model and is now looking from mid November 2010 to fill the newly created position of: General Director
This position will be mainly focused on the longterm strategic and financial items.
The General Director (GD) will be responsible for the general management, the implementation and execution of the strategy and for the achievements of the objectives as set by the Kandersteg Association Committee. He/she will oversee the successful running of the Centre and report to the Committee. Thereby the GD puts into action the Committee approved strategy for the development of this unique world centre and the smooth operation of programme and services on offer. The General Director leads a team of up to 75 staff and is the line manager of the Operational Director, administrative, financial and marketing staff. While the Operational Director covers the operational running of the centre, the GD develops and proposes ideas and concepts to the Committee and keeps the overall and financial responsibility. He/ she supervises the administrative and marketing activities and takes care of the extensive local and international relations, including taking an active role in fundraising strategy and activities and participation in various projects for the different Scout Regions in the world. He/she represents the Centre to its advantage at local & international levels, both within & outside of Scouting and in the village of Kandersteg.
Candidate Profile
You are a young leadership personality with a true scouting spirit at heart who has excellent communication abilities, understands operational economics and can operate well in an NPO (Not-For-Profit Organisation) environment. You enjoy motivating and training a young team of volunteers and semi professionals by leading by example and focussing on priorities and objectives. Your social skills and your personality enable you to form a strong staff team in order to position the centre as desired and to deliver an outstanding guest experience.
You have a graduate level of education with some years of team leading and people management experiences and a high level of self competence and confidence. You are fluent in German and English and have excellent writing and communication skills using up to date technology. You have a background in Scouting. You are prepared to work irregular hours, to travel and to be present at the Centre for special occasions and events. Residence in Kandersteg is desirable. It is an advantage if you have experiences in tourism, knowledge of other languages and further business related education.
